Silverthorne, Berri

Walkthrough 29-7-10 (1) 24-8-10.jpg

Client: The Silverthorne Trust
Budget: $2.0M +
Duration: 6 months to complete design work
Description: The client brief was to design a contemporary commercial building that maximised the use of the site and that provides a number of internal tenancies. An under croft car park occupies the lower level with elevator and lift access to the upper level. Higher stone clad blade feature walls and large areas of commercial glazing denote the two main entrance points of the building, with the remaining walls receiving a rendered finish. The building construction consists of concrete tilt up walls with a steel framed suspended concrete floor and steel framed roof structure, with the use of thermal insulation and high performance glass to provide an effective building envelope. We completed not only the architectural design of the building but also the complex individual tenancy interior designs (layouts, finishes/material selections, etc). The tenants include Fairfax Regional Radio Network (3 different radio stations), CC Chiropractic and Vitality Health Club.

Knowling residence

Client: Knowling family
Budget: $300K +
Duration: 4 months to complete design work
Description: The design brief was to design a 7 star energy efficient residence that meets the client needs, with a traditional style frontage and more contemporary side outdoor living space. Correct orientation was a key factor in the layout of rooms, with the main living zone positioned to the north with glazing to take advantage of winter sun and views to the garden. Most bedrooms are positioned on the south along with utility areas, while the front zone of the house is separated via insulated internal walls. An outdoor patio area is integrated into the main roof. High levels of insulation are incorporated into the roof and walls to reduce heat gain/loss, with all windows shaded in summer to limit heat gain. Energy efficient lighting, air-conditioning, appliances and a 2kW grid connect photo voltaic solar power system help to reduce electricity consumption.

Client: J&S Altman
Budget: N/A
Duration: 8 weeks to complete design work
Description: The clients brief was to provide an outdoor entertaining room adjacent to their existing swimming pool for recreational events and social gatherings. The open plan space includes a lounge/entertaining/dining area & kitchenette/ bar connected to an outdoor BBQ area. The architecture was to have a modern contemporary edge, capturing views of the surrounding garden through large expanses of glazing. Utilising natural light & ventilation through means of operable bi-folding & sliding stacking doors with high level louvre windows allows the space to passively connect with the surrounding environment. A bottled gas fire place & evaporative air-conditioning ensures the space can be comfortably controlled all year round. The building's construction is based on a simple steel portal frame, clad with complementary materials such as featured stacked stone veneer, horizontal hardwood timber boards & rendered finish applied to the remaining block work walls.
